My interior Design Project was about shipping containers and the other ways of using them in relation to the human interaction instead of the way they are generally used in terms of moving goods. I was also looking at using another object used in the moving goods theme by looking at the shape and idea of pallets.

Oxford Dictionary Meaning of: Pallet

noun

• 1 a portable platform on which goods can be stacked, stored, and moved.
• 2 a flat wooden blade with a handle, used to shape clay or plaster.
• 3 a projection on a machine part , serving to change the mode of motion of a wheel.
• (in a clock or watch) a projection transmitting motion from an escapement to a pendulum or balance wheel.

Architecture on Design Folio

Architecture and interior design brings a lot of ideas to my head in terms of the way it makes a statement on a site. Here I have a couple of my favorite pieces of architecture found on a design site called Designfolio which I check weekly for design ideas and to see what is going on in the world of design and art.

The Salvador Dali Museum is a modern piece of architecture that to me makes more of a statement when you are inside then out. The building is a true master piece that would to me be one of the sites that I would love to visit. 

The building looks amazing in the area it is placed and really fits in with the soft curves that make the focal point of the building. The mixure of the two main materials of the soft curving glass and the way interacts with hard sharp corners of the concrete base structure.

Human interaction with the universal contiainer

Step One: Exterior elements 

The universal shipping container and relation of moving goods via sea. There are 1000s of reported shipping containers in the ocean and are floating or have sunk. My idea here is to take the idea of floating containers and make a statement out of them. The floating escape is a idea that came to my mind when I was thinking about the stresses of life and how a lot of people want to escape. My space is the escape, its not on the land but floats in the near by sea. There are 5 Containers and they have been cut into each other in a unorganized way which doest look constructed in the standard way of stacking. The unnaturalness of the grass growing on steel is what i liked and also the way trees can provide shade and also grow.

Step Two: Constructing the Interior 

The interior elements of this space is constructed using pallet walls that slide to open the space up to flow freely onto the outside platform. The Grass is greener, the trees are brighter its autumn space inside. The space also acts as a shelter from the rain, wind and other harsh elements. The autumn trees give the inside space a much more unique and and separate space.

Step Three: Bring the two together

The two merged together to create my final year project. The simple shipping container made into a space were human can interact and escape. 

Shipping Container Architecture Research!

Architecture made from the ready made object is a unusual thought, as When you think about architecture you think of a house being put together using wood or steel. The shipping container is a very easy to find object which is used a lot in architecture more now then before. The shipping containers in a used state are a cheap and affordable way to create space without having to make a wooden frame. The way containers are used in architecture varies, Court yard space or interior spaces. The image above looks to be a very modern structure that incluedes more materials then just containers which gives the container focus in certain areas were they are used. For example in the image above they have cut out the end of the containers and inserted a large window which adds a focal point.

I love the shipping container architecture as it gives a old container a new home in terms of were it will be for a long length of time.

Another use for a industrial pallet

Recycle the material which is not commonly used in a house. This bed is a simple pallet base which has been stacked on top of each other and has kept to the original texture and material. What I like about this is the simplistic raw material is kept and not been changed but still gives mattress a strong base to sit upon.

The painted pallets give the bed another look from the unpainted however white seems to give the piece a more contemporary moderism look which I prefer.  White bedding in both of these images are used as they give you a focus on the material itself.

Do I stop and take a photo this time?

This photography is my own of a building that I drove past every time I went to tauranga. Never stoped untill now, and after this I think about every building as a opportunity to record my memories and document my travel. The material combined with its run down exterior is what makes this building visually offensive but to me it tells a story of its history and use. What was it before? What is it now? Why is it in this state? I have look for some answers but no such luck. Looks like the building is a mystery of its past and maybe it should be that way and let people assume there own story about its history.

60s? Ill like to see this more in the 2011s

Came across this architectural house which I also found to be pretty amazing, I dont know if its the photography or the design but wow! Worth a look at. The 60s feel still feels like a wining design even for this modern year were in.
